Getting Rid Of Our Sin

When I was about 3 years old my family visited a farm home for an evening meal. The farm had a lovely lawn. After the meal the adults were sitting around on chairs on the lawn while we children were playing. To this day I do not fully understand why I did what I did that evening. I don*t know if I was looking for more attention or to share more fully in the fun.

The farm family had a beautiful little girl. She was younger than me and I think she had just learned to run. All present, including me, were watching her and enjoying her as she played and ran. When she ran past me I stuck my foot out and tripped her. I was instantly ashamed of what I had done. I did not even need to hear the disappointment and reprimand that was in my mother*s voice as she simply said my name, Ronnie! I had not only hurt the little girl but I had hurt my mother. My stunt was a surprise to my mother and even to myself. One second before I tripped her I had no intention of doing that. One second after I wished with all my heart that I had not done it. I could not undo the tripping. Both families were witnesses. I could not hide it. I was consumed by shame. I am still ashamed of that sin and many others that I have committed. It is still in my memory 60 plus years later. What I experienced that evening was the awakening of a violated conscience. It was the beginning of an awareness of sin in me.

Praise God He has forgiven that sin. But I still regret it. Guilt over our sins can last a lifetime. Thank God for a guilty conscience. A gradual judgment of repeated sin is a seared conscience. A seared and insensitive conscience is a horrible thing.

1 Timothy 4:1-2: Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

When we receive Christ as Saviour He renews our conscience. Nothing repairs a violated conscience like the forgiveness of Christ. I love all the verses in the Bible that tell about God*s forgiveness of my sin. I may have to endure some of the fruit of my sins in this life but there is no condemnation for me.

Romans 8:1: There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Psalms 103:12: As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

Isaiah 38:17: Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.

Micah 7:19: He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.

Isaiah 43:25: I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.

Revelation 1:5: And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

Psalm 32:1: Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.

Romans 4:6-8: Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.
